Summary

History

Industrial Rock appears in the current year of 1980, crossing the industrial evolving from indie rock and metal who knows his hour of glory. The first groups of industrial music had on occasion used the electric guitar in their music, but could not really speak of a lineage of genres, the music industry rejected the star system that accompanied the heavy metal of the 1970s. With the evolution of it, the emergence of new genres and harden sounds, it was inevitable that some groups are experimenting with a hybrid, combining the themes and sounds of industrial instruments and the fury metal. The first album of Swans , Foetus , Nine Inch Nails , Ministry , Godflesh , some Voivod , some Die Krupps ... give its credentials to the genre.

Precursors

Emerging from the scene No Wave New York of the early 1980's , the Swans produce a punk rock slow and cumbersome: guitars and distorted, chaotic rhythms and growling vocals ... torn between punk origins and approach that links them to the industrial scene, they are probably the first group to earn the term industrial rock. Fetuses , project JGThirlwell protean, attacked for his part in a multitude of genres, passing them to his very personal roping: some of the resulting compositions is within this emerging industrial rock. In France, representatives of the industrial rock are Treponem Pal.

Merger with the metal

Ministry joins them in 1988 , adding several titles from the album The Land of Rape and Honey guitars clearly influenced by the heavy metal: the following albums come only confirm the momentum. At the same time, KMFDM takes a turn to the same genre, mixing electronic beats with powerful guitar riffs typical. From the metal scene, Justin Broadrick , ex- Napalm Death founded Godflesh , creating a fusion based on distorted guitars, bass and electronic beats strong.

Popularization of the genus

Extending these seminal groups, a real industrial metal scene is growing in the early 1990s , particularly in North America. Many groups of industrial tinged their compositions of these new sounds, including major groups such as Skinny Puppy , Front Line Assembly and Die Krupps. The genre is growing to the point of finally getting a real awareness among both the general public and the public with metal bands such as Nine Inch Nails , Marilyn Manson , Rammstein , Oomph! or Fear Factory. An entire section of the metal scene is gradually assimilated to the industrial metal, through ignorance of the rest of the industrial scene: bands like Strapping Young Lad , Static-X , Rob Zombie or Dope are representative of this trend. The metal-industry is probably the only sub-genre of industrial music who met an audience abundant, so that the term has been perverted to include certain groups of crossover or designate to the public any metal group particularly punchy and using electronics. The French scene

Some groups are speaking in this genre, the main ones being Dagoba , The Young Gods , The Black Nipples , Treponem Pal , Mass Hysteria , Sin , Punish Yourself , PORN , Malmonde , CNK and Collapse.
