Individual Absolution
In Catholicism , the absolution is the power to untie (absolvere) given to Peter by Jesus (Matthew, 16, 19): "I'll give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. "

- The priest then pronounces a formula of absolution:
- "I forgive you your sins in the name of the Father , the Son, and Holy Spirit. "

After the absolution, the priest may add, if time permits:
