- Marrakech , founded by Sultan Almoravid Youssef Ibn Tasufin in 1062 ;
- Rabat , founded by the Almohad Sultan Abd al-Mumin in 1150 ;
- Meknes , founded by the Alawite sultan Moulay Ismail in 1672 , the capital of Morocco from 1672 to 1727;
