Ibn Kathir
`Imad ad-Din Abu al-Fida ''` He Isma'il bin Umar bin Kathir Biography He studied with Abu al Hajaj al Mizzi who was his main Sheikh, and that Ibn Taymiyyah in Damascus school Hanbali during the Mamluk Syria. At the end of his studies in 1341 , his first official function is to participate in a commission of inquiry to resolve certain problems of heresy. Subsequently he held posts more or less official. In June / July 1366 he became a professor in the Great Mosque of Damascus. Ibn Kathir is the author of a commentary on the Qur'an ( tafsir ). Ibn Kathir provides the verses of the Quran in relation to the hadith. The commentary of the Quran by Ibn Kathir is one of the most famous and popular. Ibn Kathir is famous for his ability to memorize the text, he knew the Koran by heart and a great number of hadiths. It is known as a judge ( kadi ), as a historian. Although he studied with Hanbali, Ibn Kathir claims to chafisme . Two of his works are witnesses, one of them entitled The categories of followers of Imam Ash-Shafi. His work with the greatest success is its great history of Islam The Bidaayah which includes an important chronicle of the city of Damascus. At the end of his life, Ibn Kathir became blind. He attributed the blindness to his habit of working late at night in his attempt to reorganize the collection of hadith of Ahmad ibn Hanbal (Musnad) by arranging the hadith by theme rather than by chain guarantors ( isnad ).
