A hymn (noun) is a song, a lyric poem in praise of a character, a great idea, and so on. A national anthem is a patriotic song associated with public ceremonies. In the religious sphere, a hymn is a song, a poem in praise of gods or heroes, often associated with ritual.
In the liturgy Catholic , a hymn (noun) is a poem religious, especially sung during the Divine Office. Hymns are designated by their first words in Latin - Te Deum , Ave Verum Corpus , A Solis Ortus megrim, Pange lingua , Veni Creator Spiritus, etc.. They gave rise to musical compositions intended to accompany the verses , especially the organ.
