In 1995, the parishes of the United States and Europe are leaving the Church of True Orthodox Christians of Greece - Auxentiite Synod of Bishop Maximos I. They elect as locum tenes headquarters Athens Makarios of Toronto and adopt the name: Holy Orthodox Church in North America (HOCN).
