Hassan Ibn Tabita
Hassan ibn Tabita ( ) (died 660 ) was a poet, Arabic , companion of Muhammad.
Biography
Hassan ibn Tabita was born in Medina between 555 and 560, within the tribe of Banu Khazraj. He traveled in his youth in Syria at Al-Hira and Damascus. In Syria, he managed to gain admittance to the court Lakhmids and Ghassanids. He returned to Medina at the time of the AH where he converted to Islam at age 60 in 622. Muhammad had chosen as a poet, Hassan ibn Tabita was in this position, to defend Islam against the idolaters. He frequently participated in poetry contests, and according to tradition, he managed to convert an entire tribe, the Banu Tamim by winning a poetry contest.
He died early in the reign of Muawiya in 660.
