Biography
Hanoch Albeck was born in an environment conducive to what became his career. His father Shalom (nicknamed the specialist of the Talmud) was indeed the editor of many books written by Rishonim as Ra'aven , the Meiri Yevamot on the treaty, and HaEshkol Abraham ben Isaac of Narbonne. Hanoch Albeck studied at the rabbinical academy of Vienna and received rabbinic ordination in 1905. In 1921, he graduated from the University of Vienna. Between 1926 and 1935, Hanoch Albeck taught at the Hochschule fr die Wissenschaft des Judentums in Berlin. In 1936 he emigrated to Mandatory Palestine , where he was immediately hired as a professor and director of Talmudic science department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , a position he held for twenty-five years. During his studies and his career, he was among his teachers David Zvi Miller and Avigdor Optowitzer , and among his students, Avraham Goldberg (Talmudic science) and Abraham Joshua Heschel (considered one of the major Jewish thinkers of the twentieth century ).
Hanoch Albeck, who was a practicing Jew, published numerous books in Hebrew and German on rabbinic literature, such as "Introduction to the Mishna," "Studies Baraita and Tosefta , "" Introduction to the Talmud "and others. He also published numerous articles in the newspaper Tarbiz.
Hanoch Albeck also wrote a simple and accurate commentary on the Mishna, producing longer notes as an appendix at the end of each volume. This work is sometimes cited by Pinhas KEHATI in his own commentary to the Mishna. While the vocalization ( niqqud ) receives special attention in the Albeck edition, the text does not deserve so much interest and therefore of the Mishna Albeck is not a purely scientific study of the latter. Albeck version was written as a continuation and development of incomplete work and previous Hayyim Nahman Bialik.
