Biography
Gregory III Laham since 1981 was patriarchal vicar in Jerusalem, Melkite Greek Catholic archbishop.
He was enthroned Patriarch 29 November 2000 by a synod of thirty bishops called for the election. His immediate predecessor Maximus V Hakim , who attended the enthronement had resigned at the age of 92 years for health reasons.
In 2002 , Gregory III wanted to "unify the date of Easter" by adopting the Julian calendar , the problem of the date of Easter is still a subject for dialogue between Christians of East Catholic and Orthodox.
In 2007 , he traveled to Canada to inaugurate the Cathedral Saint-Sauveur de Montreal , where the center of the Greek-Melkite local.
In May 2008 he received an official visit by Pope Benedict XVI , with all the Melkite bishops and several archimandrites.
