Gordian II also called Gordian the Younger ( towards 192 - 238 ) was Roman emperor in 238 , during the period known as the military anarchy.
Biography
In 238 , Gordian I. , aged 80, was proconsul of the Roman province of Africa proconsul , when the owners, tired of taxes levied by the Thracian Maximinus designate him as emperor. Immediately, because of his age, he enlisted his son Gordian II. The Roman Senate did not take long to recognize them.
However, in Numidia , the neighboring province of Proconsular , the legate remained loyal to Maximinus the Thracian , throws a legion , the army faces of Gordian II Gordian led by, who perished in battle. His father, Gordian I. suicide at the news.
His nephew Gordian III will in turn appointed by the Senate first Cesar (22 April 238), then sole emperor (July 29, 238) after transient episode of emperors Pupien Maximus , the head of armies, Balbin , responsible for maintaining order in Rome , who were assassinated by the Praetorian Guard.
