Ghani Alani
Poet and calligrapher, heir to the school of calligraphy in Baghdad, Ghani Alani, born in 1937 in Baghdad , is one of the great masters of contemporary calligraphy. Living in France, this artist Iraqi international reputation has seen his works exhibited in all major world capitals. He taught his art at the Faculty of Letters of Aix-en-Provence and then at the Institute of Oriental Languages in Paris.
Ghani Alani continues a glorious tradition and is the symbol of the art of calligraphy Arab-Muslim who is the highest expression of knowledge, one that combines into one the various facets of knowledge. In his Arabic calligraphy "is a living art, opened on the present, combining tradition and modernity." Winner of the Unesco Prize-2009 for Sharjah Arab Culture.
