History
They were originally six in number: Vital superior of the mission, Berard of Carbio in Umbria, who knew the Arabic , Otto, who was a priest , Pierre de Saint Gminien, deacon , and Adjutant Accurce, lay brothers.
Vital having been arrested by the disease in the Kingdom of Aragon , Berard was chosen to head the mission. They came dressed as secular in the Andalusia , and stood in the mosque of Seville , where they preached the Gospel. Then they went to the king from Jesus Christ to urge him to renounce Mohammedanism. This prince had them put in prison, and having learned that their plan was to go to Africa, he drove in a ship that was leaving for Morocco in the company of the Infante of Portugal, Don Pedro. Having arrived there, they went to the king and told him about Jesus Christ. This prince was out of town and as they returned, he put them in a dungeon. By being out, they continued to preach, we stopped them, they beat him cruelly, and finally broke through the king himself in the head every five with his scimitar. They died on 16 January of the year 1220 and were canonized by Pope Sixtus IV on 17 August in the year 1421. Jean Weaver wrote their Office. Prince of Portugal is collecting their remains, and they are said to have made many miracles, among other things, the conversion of Anthony of Lisbon, known then Padua.
