The flag of Israel

The flag of Israel (in Hebrew : , in Arabic : ) is the national flag of the State of Israel. It was adopted by the movement Zionist in the nineteenth century and again during the creation of the state in 1948. It has at its center the Star of David , or "Magen David" (Hebrew literally "Shield of David").

The proportions of the flag, its colors ( white and blue ) and two horizontal stripes evoke the tallit , prayer shawl Jewish.

Summary

The shape of the flag

Main article: Star of David.

The law of the State of Israel described the flag of the State as having a white background on which are two bands of color tekhlth (in Hebrew, "blue") dark, stretching its entire length but are somewhat enhanced by the width. At the center of the flag between the two bands, is drawing a Magen David of color bands. The flag colors are as original colors tallit , although the colors of the stripes on the tallit tekhlth vary to black. It is possible that this is because of this we have the ambiguous definition of "tekhlth dark." In fact, the blue tint varies from one flag to another and is not fixed, sometimes dark blue, sometimes light blue.

Official description

The shape and proportions of the flag have been fixed and were published in an official statement of the provisional assembly of the state, and were subsequently approved by an Act of the Knesset in 1949:

"The flag is 220 cm long, 160 cm wide. The background is white on which are two bands tekhlth dark, each 25 cm wide, extended along the entire length of the flag from one side to the other side. The upper band is at a distance of 15 cm from the wide side. In the middle of a white background, between the two bands tekhlth and equidistant to them is a Magen David made of six tapes tekhlth, each 5.5 cm wide, which is refined into two equal triangles, whose bases are parallel tekhlth the two bands that are along the flag. The flag of Israel also bears the Star of David but the composition changes. Adopted the ratio is 2:3, which is much more standard than the civil flag.

The flag that floats on civilian vessels registered in Israel is composed of a blue background with the star placed in a white oval. The star is also stretched vertically by a ratio of 3:2.

For the flag of warships, the disk is replaced by a triangle on the side of the flagpole.
