Summary

History

First Baptist Church is founded in French in 1820 to Nomain ( North ). The first swarms moving modestly in the North, the valley of the Aisne and the valley of the Oise. In 1834 , the Baptist work expands into Britain with the arrival in Morlaix Welsh Pastor John Jenkins. From 1836 , the Baptists organized (opening of school pastoral Douai , adoption of a common confession of faith ...) before being severely harassed, from 1852 , because of restrictions on religious freedom in force under Napoleon III. The last quarter of the nineteenth century saw an expansion that will allow churches encouraging Francophones (approximately 30 communities between France , the Belgium and Switzerland ) to organize themselves more effectively.

In 1911 , it comes to the organization under the leadership of Pastor Philemon Vincent. Ten churches formed unite and form the Federation of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Northern France, which foreshadows the partly FEEBF present. In 1913 , 15 pastors are at work, 28 places of worship together 883 baptized members. The First World War , particularly appalling in northern France, decimating the ranks of Churches (8 Churches destroyed) and the pastors. But a new beginning takes place after the war, and in 1921 , the Federation of Evangelical Baptist Churches no longer limited solely to Northern France. Yet growth is slowing in the interwar period. Doctrinal dissension caused a division and reorganization among Baptist Churches.

The FEEBF branch Baptist attached to the Protestant Federation of France

Three trends emerge in 1920-21: a network of churches formed the Association of Evangelical Churches Baptists in French, while the Tabernacle Baptist Church chose the path of independence. The FEEBF itself, meanwhile, says its specificity. Declared in the prefecture (prefecture of police of the Seine) as the "Federation of Evangelical Baptist Churches of France" (November 25, 1921) confirms its attachment to the Protestant Federation of France (FPF) , a new growth phase begins with several new locations of churches. Between 1976 and 1984 , the number of churches increased from 46 (2300 bringing together members) to 71 churches (collecting 3,800 baptized members). For many churches have joined the Federation of Evangelical Baptist Churches, new churches were created (in Pau , Menton , Saint-Raphael , Chelmsford , Laval ...). The big news this time is the influx of sensitivity charismatic churches.

In 1995 , the Federation brings together 103 churches, more than 50 are from the work of the Inland Mission Baptist, representing about 6,500 baptized members.
