Family Services Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints
LDS Family Services is a nonprofit organization created and run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It offers members of the Church adoption agencies and placement services for children, family counseling and marital counseling on addiction and drug addiction, counseling and psychotherapy services and counseling to single mothers. These services are intended for those in need, regardless of their religion and are free.
In 1919, the organization was created as a Relief Society Social Service Department (Department of Social Service of the Relief Society) by Amy Brown Lyman, President of the General Relief Society of the Church. In 1969, the organization was renamed the Unified Social Services (Social Services combined). In 1973, the organization became a separate company from the Relief Society of the Church and renamed LDS Social Services. In the late 1990s, the name was changed back to LDS Family Services.
The Family Services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints currently has 62 offices located in the United States , in Canada , the United Kingdom , Australia , New Zealand and Japan. Staff must have at least a master's degree in behavioral sciences.
As an affiliate of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one of the key roles of LDS Family Services is an adviser to avoid abortion to women and unmarried pregnant girls. Alternatively, advice is given to these women to consider marriage with the biological father or, if not impossible, to allow the child to be adopted by a married couple.
LDS Family Services does not provide its services to facilitate the adoption of children by single parents, unmarried couples or same-sex partners.
Recently, during the LDS Family Services with the theme "strengthening marriage and family ', and' fight against addiction have been established in the parishes of some countries.
