Fall Bible
Fall (also known as The story of the fall or the fall of man) is the third chapter of Genesis , or Bereshit , although the name does not give him either in the original texts.
This chapter describes how Adam and Eve , the first man created by God , disobey his orders regarding the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil :
"You shall not eat it and you touch it, lest you die. " The elements of the biblical narrative The Fall is with the Temptation and Expulsion from Earthly Paradise one of the most popular episodes of Genesis in the Christian sculpture and painting. It already appears in the paintings of the Catacombs (Catacombs of Priscilla, Rome) or the early Christian sarcophagi. The theme is experiencing enduring popularity in medieval Christian art and painting of the Renaissance. Representations depict Adam as he will accept the apple Eve plucks or she hands him the eyes of the tempting serpent, sometimes depicted with a human head or a bust. Hugo van der Goes (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum) represented the snake still standing on the hind legs, recalling the biblical saying that God has punished for his role in the Fall by forcing it to crawl on the ground.
