Etienne Balibar

Etienne Balibar, born 23 April 1942 at Avalon in the Yonne is a philosopher French. Professor Emeritus, University of Paris X - Nanterre , there was a professor of political and moral philosophy until 2002. He is also professor of French, English and Comparative Literature, and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California at Irvine , the United States.

Biography

In 1960 , Etienne Balibar is received at the Ecole Normale Superieure , where he was a professor Louis Althusser , who has a great influence on him. In 1962 , he graduated in philosophy at the Sorbonne , followed the next year of a graduate degree under the direction of Georges Canguilhem.

In 1964 he was made first to the aggregation of Philosophy (just before his comrade Rancire ) and began teaching. His first job brought him to the University of Algiers ( Algeria ), where he is attending as a volunteer for Cooperation, 1965 to 1967.

In 1982, he created with Dominique Lecourt Collection "theoretical practice" for the Presses Universitaires de France.

Etienne Balibar is the husband of the physicist Francoise Balibar and father of actress Jeanne Balibar.

He is a member of the committee sponsoring the Russell Tribunal on Palestine , whose work began March 4, 2009.
