Epistle Of Jude
The Epistle of Jude is a book of the New Testament. It is sent by "Jude the servant of Jesus Christ and brother of Jacques' (Ju v 1), that Judas of a brother of the Lord mentioned in Mark 6:3.
Its author is sometimes identified with Jude Thaddeus , the apostle, yet he does not present himself as an apostle in v. 1.1 and discusses their teaching in the third person in verse 17.
This is a letter to certain saints who are weak in faith. They were weakened by those among them who profess to be Christians but practiced a pagan cult immoral and claimed to be exempt from obedience to moral law. Jude wanted to educate the saints in spiritual danger in which they were and encourage them to remain faithful.
Among the notable passages, an apocalyptic nature, there is the verse 6, which evokes the fall of the angels, and verses 14 and 15, quoting 1 Enoch 60:8 and 1:9 (which is itself based the blessing of Moses in Deuteronomy 33:2.)
- Jude 14-15 "Enoch the seventh from Adam" prophesied, "Behold, the Lord came with his holy myriads, to execute judgments against all ..."
- 1 Enoch 60:8 "Enoch the seventh from Adam";
- 1 Enoch 1:9 "Behold, the Lord came with his holy myriads, to execute judgments against all ..."
- Deuteronomy 33:2 "Behold, the Lord came from Sinai ... he came out of the myriads of saints "
Here is the testimony of St. Jerome about admission into the canon :
- "Jude, brother of Jacques, left a short epistle, which is one of the seven Catholic Epistles, and is rejected by many because it relies on the testimony of the Book of Enoch, an apocryphal, but its age and the use which has been done, it has not failed to authority and takes the place of Scripture. "
Bauckham argues that the author of Jude the book of Enoch considered just as authentic . Neyrey however leaves open the possibility that the author of Jude was used rhetorically to knowingly . The grammar of the quotation is unusual: instead of "Enoch prophesied about these men" (the genitive), the Greek text contains "Enoch prophesied of these men" (the dative) .
