Encyclopaedia Judaica
The Encyclopaedia Judaica is an encyclopedia language English in 26 volumes devoted to culture, history and religion Jewish. She takes over from the Jewish Encyclopedia , published in English 1901-1906 and the draft Judaica German History The first edition of the Encyclopaedia Judaica, published in 1971-1972, included 16 volumes, printed in Jerusalem by Keter Publishing House and New York by the Macmillan Company. Between 1972 and 1994, 10 new volumes were added to previous ones, by enriching the encyclopedia of supplements on recent events, which brought the total to 15 million words and over 25,000 items. According to its authors, the project required thirty years of study and research. Its editors were first Cecil Roth , until his death in 1970, Geoffrey Wigod. The encyclopedia was attended by about 2,200 contributors and 250 editors around the world. A second edition, completely revised, was published in 22 volumes in January 2007. A CD version of Judaica is now available, based on a fund of the second printed edition, with more than 100,000 links and various technical possibilities such as videos, music and pronunciation of Hebrew. A shorter version in Russian language was launched in early 1970 but eventually became independent publication and has 11 volumes and 3 supplements. An abridged version is available in French, the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Judaism, adapted by Sylvie Anne Goldberg and completed a sketch of the history of the Jewish people . Notes
