Emmanuel III Delly Karim, born in Telkaif in Iraq on 6 October 1927 , is the current primate of the Chaldean Catholic Church with the title of since 3 December 2003.

Biography
Training
He was educated in Rome obtaining a degree in philosophy and a master's degree in theology at the Pontifical Urban University and an MA in Canon Law at the Lateran University.
Main Departments
He was ordained priest on 21 December 1952 in Rome. In Baghdad , he was appointed secretary of the Patriarch of Babylon 30 December 1960.
Elected and confirmed by Pope John XXIII , he was consecrated on 19 April 1963 and appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Babylon , thus assisting the patriarch Paul II Cheikho. As such, he participated as an expert at the Council Vatican II. On 6 May 1967, he was appointed archbishop of Kaskar while remaining auxiliary patriarch of Babylon.
At the Roman Curia , he was consultor to the Review Board's Code of Canon Law of Eastern Churches and the Commission for Relations with Islam's Secretariat for Non-Christians (now the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue ).
On December 3, 2003, he was elected patriarch of Babylon by the bishops Chaldeans under the name Emmanuel III Delly in the heart of the difficulties faced by Christians of Iraq in the heart of the war that is bleeding the country. In November 2005, he presided over the Synod of Bishops Special Chaldeans, who had to meet in Rome could not stay in Iraq for security reasons.
He was elevated to the dignity of cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI on 24 November 2007 , but not voter if conclave having already reached the age of 80. His appointment was welcomed by all the Iraqi people as a sign of recognition of the suffering of the nation and an incentive for peace and dialogue.
