Elmal (literally in Turkish ) is a city and its urban area in the province of Antalya in Turkey. It lies about 35 miles inland, at the entrance of a long valley surrounded by mountains whose altitude varies between 1050 and 1150 meters. Apart from the city Elmal, the area includes two dependent suburbs with their own municipalities (Akay and Yuva) and villages. In 2000 , the population of the entire area reached 40 041 inhabitants, including 14,600 for the center of the area.
The economy is largely agricultural, although some tourist interest is growing thanks to its traditional architectural fabric.
In keeping with its name, Elmal represents approximately one tenth of the apple production of Turkey. His leblebi is also delicious.
The area is inhabited by descendants of the Lycian ancient, which have retained a distinctive facial type, apparent immediately in the city population. There were about fifty Greek families, the rest of the population (4000) are Muslim (1911).
