Ecumenical Translation Of The Bible
The Ecumenical Translation of the Bible (NIV), published in 1975 - 1976 , is a translation of the French Bible carried out jointly by Catholics and Protestants.
The participation of Orthodox has been effective but unimportant because there was a small number of scholars of French language among them, the basic text was the Hebrew text and not the Greek text of the Septuagint , and because of disagreements related to certain choices of translation and some comments about the New Testament.
The project was launched by the Dominican Fathers who provided the revision of the Bible (see French Biblical and Archaeological School of Jerusalem ) and specialists Protestants they had requested the collaboration. The NIV was published by Editions du Cerf and the United Bible Societies.
This work never conducted joint translation began with the translation of the Epistle to the Romans. The critical apparatus and the requirement to make this Bible translation, one of the most used by scholars. The translation of the Pentateuch and the notes were revised in 2004 , as amended by new historical-critical data.
Unlike the Bible , the NIV does not contain any imprimatur.
A new edition of this translation was published in November 2010 by Editions Library, Bible Society and the French Cerf.
