The cole Centrale de Nantes (ECN) is an engineering school generalist. Located in France , it was established in 1919 and is a member of the Central Group.

Summary

History

In August 1919 , at the instigation of the shipbuilding industry and construction, the City of Nantes decided to create a Western Polytechnic Institute (SSI) and then to the National Vocational School Eugene Livet Nantes. In 1926 , the State recognizes and accepts its attachment Institute at the University of Rennes. The institute is among the engineering courses of the oldest recognized by the Securities Commission as an engineer in France. Professor at the IPO since 1927, Paul Le Rolland is director from 1934 to 1944 before becoming Director of Technical Education in Paris.

In 1947 , the Institute was transformed into National School of Mechanics (ENSM), type national schools of Engineering (ENSI). Its status is that of an institute affiliated faculty at the University of Rennes. The connection is transferred to the University of Nantes during the creation of it in 1962. The ENSM moved in 1977 to new premises, near the campuses of law and letters.

In 1991 , through the creation of the Central Group , the school takes the name of Ecole Centrale de Nantes (ECN). She left the group to join the ENSI Contest Central-Suplec including Central School Paris , Ecole Centrale de Lyon and Ecole Centrale de Lille.

The Central School of Nantes retains its status as a public administration until 29 September 1993 when the Decree 93-1143 transforms into A public, scientific, cultural and professional.

Director Peter Vaussy leaves office in September 2002 giving space to Patrick Chedmail , former director of studies that continues the work of his predecessor, particularly in the redesign project studies aimed at redefining the general profile of the training and to establish or strengthen links with industry.

In 2006, the Ecole Centrale de Nantes joined the Foundation Centrale Lille is renowned Central Initiative Foundation to create synergies through corporate sponsorship. In 2009, the Ecole Centrale de Nantes and Ecole Centrale de Lyon create a joint venture of research development: Central innovation .

In January 2010, Ecole Centrale de Nantes based Natech - Nantes Atlantic Technology in partnership with Audencia and the Ecole des Mines de Nantes.

Training

The formation of general engineering

Building housing the towing tank

Centrale Nantes trains engineers general, that is to say capable of adapting to the many problems they encounter in the world of industry. Typically, graduates of the school are brought quickly to fill senior positions as Project Manager.

From the third year, the school offers students deepen a particular domain using the 8 following options:

  • Automatic
  • Computers
  • Product Development and Industrial Systems
  • Materials
  • Simulation in Engineering Mechanics
  • Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Energy
  • Hydrodynamics & Ocean Engineering

He also asked a third-year engineering students to follow one of the following professional:

  • Design and marketing innovation
  • Developing a personal project
  • Undertake
  • Finance
  • Project Management
  • Quality
  • Research and development
  • City and sustainable services

Since 2001, Ecole Centrale de Nantes is seeking an international dimension. Thus two languages are compulsory throughout the school and students are required to obtain at least an internationally recognized qualification, the aim of the school is to move beyond academic learning and provide cultural knowledge and ability communication in the workplace.

In addition, all students must, during their schooling, a stay abroad for a minimum of 6 weeks. The average stay is 4.5 months, which is a "strong point" in the training of engineers in the ECN, which thus acquire a good knowledge of the culture of a country. Under agreements Top Industrial Managers for Europe (TIME network that brings together forty leading European universities), engineering students can make a school of 18 to 24 months in a partner and get after 4 years at a time ECN engineering degree and diploma level equivalent to that institution.

Doctoral education

The school is involved in two graduate schools in cohabilitation with the University of Nantes :

  • Graduate School of Science and Technology Information and materials, hosted by the University of Nantes;
  • Graduate School Mechanics, Thermal Engineering and hosted by ECN.

The average number of students from Central School in preparation for thesis is about 45 per axis mechanical / civil engineering and 55 per IRCCyN. The school awards thirty doctorates per year.
