The Central School of Lyon is a great engineering school French GP, located at Ecully near Lyon , founded in 1857 and member of the Central Group.
Summary |
History
The Central School of Lyon was created in 1857 under the name "Lyons Central School for Industry and Trade" at the initiative of Franois Barthlemy Arles-Dufour , businessman and humanist and Lyon of Desire Girardon , professor at the School of Martiniere willing to "train the best students in Martiniere in chemistry, industrial engineering, civil construction and industrial design " . Desired Girardon became the first director of the school. The private dock Castellane moved to 19 on an area of 1000 m 2 and the start of the first 14 engineering students held November 3, 1857. Among this promotion, is the youngest son of Arles-Dufour - named Armand - first Centrale graduate and founding president of the Association of Former Students of the School.

Training and skills development
Methods of recruitment
Admission to the Ecole Centrale de Lyon shall be as follows:
- Program Centrale (Central Lyon Engineers = grade 300 ECTS )
- Contest Central-Suplec (MP chain of preparatory classes, PSI, PC, PT, IST)
- Casting - Competitions Admission on Title Engineer, L3 license holders or Master M1]
- Exchanges TIME double degree partner institutes TIME- Part of the students come from licensing scientific or academic institution foreign partner.
Studies GPs
Central Lyon trains engineers high-level generalists whose mission is to engage in business. Like any central school , the training is done in two steps:
- Two years of Core, where many areas of science and humanities are considered: fluid mechanics , mathematics , computer science , signal processing , philosophy , etc.. During these two years, students must also study the English and may choose to study in another more modern language. The practice of sport is also mandatory.
- Half a specialization in one of seven options: Civil Engineering and Environment , Mathematics and Decision , Aerospace , Transportation and Traffic , Information and Communication , Energy and Micro - Nano - Biotechnology.
Projects and learning by doing
During their studies and as part of their training in "Project Management" , engineering students make three projects:
- a draft study of 10 months between the first and second year
- an industrial project of 6 months at the end of second year
- Draft an option 6 months in third year.
Since applying for a new reform this year (thus promoting 2012 and following), the projects are as follows:
- Project Study is shortened by 6 months and no longer takes place only during the first year
- the Corporate Plan is extended by six months and takes place during the entire second year. It is called "Draft Industrial Application" or "Project Implementation Research" depending on the chosen project.
- Project Option is unchanged
Internships and Industrial Training
Engineering students from the Ecole Centrale de Lyon also carry three courses during their training:
- Implementing a Stage (internship or worker ) of 1 to 2 months in the first year, whose goal is to become familiar with the world of industry ,
- Implementation of a Stage 3 to 4 months in second year to participate actively in an engineering project within a company,
- End of a Labour Studies 3 to 6 months in the third year, corresponding to a first mission to junior engineer.
In addition to compulsory industrial internship, a student may decide to perform during his training a gap year: he will suspend his schooling for a year, at its option:
- either an internship Industrial Long Term 9-15 months
- or study in another school or university on a professional topic of their choice,
- is a project staff contributing to its professionalization.
Doctoral Training
cole Centrale de Lyon offers graduates Bac +5, Centrale or not to continue their studies with a PhD in one of six research laboratories of the School.
Research and Innovation
Grouped in 6 laboratories, more than 300 people contribute to industrial contracts R & D and innovation, writing 500 scientific publications per year, and the filing of 12 patents for 5 years.
Population
- 1 000 engineering students in 1st, 2nd, 3rd years
- 200 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers,
- 110 teachers and lecturers,
- 100 senior industry trainers contractors and external stakeholders,
- 70 researchers, engineers and technicians CNRS ,
- 100 other staff.
Laboratories
Six major laboratories conduct - often in conjunction with the CNRS and other training institutions Rhone-Alps - the work of Research and Development of School:
- AMPERE : Electrical Engineering, Electromagnetics, Control, Environmental Microbiology and Applications Companies transfer and industrial developments
- Innovation Central , (C-Innov): Founded in 1993, this private company whose shareholders are the ECL and ECN provides benefits research and development for industrial clients famous (Airbus, ArcelorMittal, Areva, Calor , EADS, EDF, Eurocopter, Hispano Suiza, French Institute of Petroleum, L'Oreal, ONERA, Plastic Omnium, Peugeot Citroen, Renault, Sanofi Pasteur, SNCF, Snecma, Total, Turbomeca, Valeo , IHI, Nippon Oil, Nissan, Schlumberger Shell ...).
- Start-ups: Since its inception, ECL has given birth to twenty start-up's technology which METRAVIB , MECAmaster, KADE-TECH Scantec, SILLAGES Environment , ...
Opening International
Very open to foreigners, the school welcomes 21% of foreign students, especially coming from Europe , from China , from Japan , from Canada or Brazil.
Many engineering students spend their final year of study abroad, especially through the 41 dual degree agreements with international universities.
Since the 2009 reform of the ECL, it is now compulsory for all engineering students to make a stay of a minimum of 3 months abroad during their studies.
Student Life
Alumni Association of the Central School of Lyon (CLSS)
The Association of Students of the Ecole Centrale de Lyon ( AEECL ), founded in 1949, has a thousand members, almost all students of the school.
The association brings together 14 teams: CAA (Board), BDE, treasurers, WEI (Weekend Integration), Gala, BDA (Bureau des Arts), PH (Piston Hebdo weekly student), ODP Anim, SDEC (Courts Service), FLASH (computer network of students), International Bureau, EVP, etc.. or 130 active members and 50 clubs.
Clubs and associations Centrale
In addition to the students' association - whose mission is primarily to manage the campus activities - many other clubs (dependent AEECL) or associations (independent of the CLSS) offer activities for engineering students school.
They may be related to the practice of leisure (eg Mountain Club , Photo Club , Ski Club Piston , Piston Motorsport Ecurie , Fanfare Piston , Rocket Club, Drawing Club, ...), services for students Engineers (Courts Service, FLASH , Bread in Bed, ...), the connection between people and cultures (China Club, Club Latino, ...) or the realization of joint projects ( Junior Enterprise named Central Council , associations humanitarian as Solidari'Terre ...).
