Early History Of Christianity

Early History of Christianity is a vast historical panorama of the philosopher Ernest Renan.

The work includes seven books:

  • Life of Jesus (1863)
  • The Apostles (1866)
  • St. Paul (1869)
  • The Antichrist (1873)
  • The Gospels (1878)
  • The Christian Church (1879)
  • Marcus Aurelius (1883)

Taking the theory of mythical David Strauss , Renan wrote a biography of Jesus, rejecting any notion of supernatural and describing his hero as an incomparable man . Historian of ideas, he admits the need for religious experience, but is too often reduced to a purely social element .
