Since the 1990s , dialogue ecumenical develops between the Churches of Syriac tradition, although they are of different denominations: two councils of churches heirs of the ancient Church of the East , three councils of churches or the Eastern Catholic Churches heiresses of the ancient Church of Antioch. All share a common cultural heritage and in particular the use of Syriac as their liturgical language.
This dialogue takes place especially in the context of a series of unofficial consultations on the initiative of the Pro Oriente Foundation, an organization depending on the diocese Catholic of Vienna in Austria from 1994.
These meetings bring together representatives of Churches of Western tradition Syriac ( Syriac Orthodox Church , Syriac Catholic Church , Malankara Orthodox Church , Syro-Malankara Catholic Church , Maronite Church ) and East Syriac tradition ( Apostolic Assyrian Church of the East , Ancient Church of the East , Chaldean Catholic Church , Catholic Church Syro-Malabar ).
This dialogue focuses on both the Mariology and Christology , it is a part of the identification of the Virgin Mary to the Theotokos , and the other the relationship between humanity and divinity of Christ as defined in the symbol of Chalcedon.
