Myths
Goddess of love, Aphrodite , called Venus by the Romans, was born from the foam of the sea It was brought by the west wind, Zephyr on the shores of Cyprus. A tradition is the birthplace of Aphrodite at the place called Petra tou Coastal Romiou ("the rock of the Greek"), a set of impressive cliffs and rocks, a little east of the old Paphos. They say that rock, planted in the sea a few dozen meters from the shore at the edge of a creek, would have been thrown there by a titan who had wrested from the mountains of pentadactyl, north of Nicosia. The "Pentadactylos (penta, five, and typists, finger) is a mountain whose shape is very special, according to legend, the imprint of the hand that tore the top of the mountain for disposal at sea from the foam caused by falling rock in the water would be born the goddess of love, Aphrodite.
