Critical Year
The crucial year is a term used in the historiography Spanish designate the year 1492.
This is the year of the conquest of Granada ( January 2nd ) in Andalusia by the forces of Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon , which marks the end of the Reconquista.
It is also the year of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus ( October 12 ) on behalf of the Catholic Monarchs and the Kingdom of Spain, although he should think to have discovered a new route to the Indies.
Finally, this year sees the expulsion of Jews Sephardim from Spain by the decree of the Alhambra ( March 31 ). Some will contribute to the development of financial Netherlands , then under Spanish rule, others settled in the Maghreb , in Portugal , in Italian or Mediterranean east: in all, between 150,000 and 200,000 Jews s' exiled. A few years later, the Moors and other unconverted were expelled in turn ( 1502 , 1525 ).
