On 2 June 1974 , to meet the needs of migrant Copts, His Holiness Shenouda III , Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria came two monks of St. Bishoy monastery in Wadi Natroum to serve in Western Europe. The monk Marcos was ordained bishop of Marseille and Toulon, the monk Athanasios chorvque.
Egyptian-born communities were first organized in France to Paris and Marseille. The seat of the bishopric was erected and built at Toulon / The Revest-les-Eaux with a church dedicated to Mary Theotokos under the heading of "Appearance of the Mother of God in Zeitoun.
