Copernic Synagogue
The Jewish Liberal Union of France (ULIF) is a synagogue Jewish liberal French, founded in 1907 and located 24, rue Copernic in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. His Rabbi Michael Williams since August 1976.
The Jewish community is defined as "liberal," but maintains a relatively practical, identifying more with the Reform movement in the United Kingdom or Conservative in the United States, that Reform Judaism American. The ULIF is the largest liberal Jewish community in France.
Attack of the rue Copernic
The bombing of the Rue Copernic was perpetrated on Friday 3 October 1980 , evening of the Sabbath, then what was celebrated the festival of Simchat Torah bringing a large number of faithful.
This attack Semitic bombings, against the synagogue in the Rue Copernic, made four dead and 20 wounded. The Prime Minister Raymond Barre sparked a controversy when during a rather ambiguous statement that he "regretted the death of innocent French.
