Constantine Viii
Constantine VIII ( 960 - died on 11 November 1028 ) was Emperor Byzantine from 970 in 1028 , brother of Basil II and the son of Romanus II and Theophano.
As for his brother Basil, he must undergo during his minority the regency of his mother Theophano, then the emperor Nicephorus II in 963 to 969 , and John I Tzimiskes of 969 to 976. It really takes power with his brother in 976. He leaves his brother Basil II the affairs of state, attending only to its representation.
At Basil's death, he finds himself alone to power in 1025 , and says the charges of the state to families unable to afford.
His reign was marked by the government of the Anatolian aristocracy: unable to resist his demands, he left to bury the agrarian reforms of his brother Basil II, transforming countries of Asia Minor in large areas populated by serfs.
In early November 1028 , he fell ill and poses the problem of his succession: his eldest daughter Eudoxia was religious, while his two youngest daughters, Zoe and Theodora , were confined to the gynoecium and single. Constantine VIII Zoe then decided to marry Argyre Roman Senator, who then had to divorce his wife and married Zoe to be able to succeed Constantine died Nov. 11.
