Consort
Consort (transcript of ancient Greek / is a noun or adjective meaning literally "sitting near", "who sits next to." It is used to describe a deity often lower prerogative, usually associated in the worship of a god or goddess, more influential. But the general usage tends to call the consort or the consort of a deity , that may be equal or complementary.
In Egyptian mythology , almost all the deities were paired and frequently even root handling (as in the Ogdoad Hermopolis ).
The relations between Egyptian gods peculiar to different cosmologies are best known:
- Shou / Tefnut , parents of Geb / Nut which generate Osiris / Isis and Seth / Nephthys in the cosmogony of Heliopolis ;
- Noun / Nounet , Heh / Hehet , Kekou / Kekette , Amon / Amemet in Hermopolitan cosmogony ;
and local relations:
- Amun / Mut (in the triad of Thebes )
- Ptah / Sekhmet (the triad of Memphis )
- Montu / Rttaouy (in the Triad Medamud ).
Other examples of consorts:
- Attis is consort of Cybele , like Juno to Jupiter ;
- Sarasvati is the consort of Brahma ;
- Kali , Durga , Parvati are the consorts of Shiva , his Shaktis ;
- Samantabhadra Samantabhadra and are the two aspects of Buddha-nature , compassion and wisdom ..
- Tanith is the consort of Baal Hammon , African or Saturn;
- Antu Antum or is the consort of An , king of the Sumerian gods.
