Claude Lepelley
Lepelley Claude, born in 1934 , is a historian French specialist of late antiquity and the Roman Africa. His thesis on The cities of Roman Africa in the Lower Empire , supported in 1977 under the direction of William Seston , has profoundly changed our understanding of the urban world to III - IV centuries: far from declining, the cities of Africa experiencing a degree of prosperity at that time.
Biography
Claude Lepelley successively taught ancient history at the University of Tunis (1957-1959) at the Sorbonne (1962-1967), then at the University of Lille III. He was professor at the University of Paris X Nanterre (1984-2002) and Chairman of the Institute for Augustinian Studies (1987-2000).
His research focuses on the history of Christianity and Late Antiquity.
