History The date of construction of the church is unknown and only a medieval document lets say it was high before 1447. Throughout the fifteenth century , its activity is important, but it declined after the arrival of the Turks and the building was deteriorating. In the late nineteenth century , however, is a restoration company and frescoes were added, including portraits of saints in the early twentieth century.
Architecture
The church has a Latin cross. The eastern side is distinguished from others by a three-sided apse, a small dome dominates the whole. The outer surfaces are ornamented by sets of colors and geometric shapes created by the positioning of the bricks varied. The height of the dome and the silhouette of the building are clearly inspired by the Armenian architecture.
Interior
The church in its environment
The apse is decorated by frescoes painted during the restoration of the monument in the early twentieth century. They represent saints and the Virgin Mary. The iconostasis , which separates this part of the rest of the building dates from the same period. The medieval frescoes are typical of the period of Comnenus.
The dome is decorated with a Christ Pantocrator surrounded by eight angels. The Prophets frame the windows. The upper levels of the nave are the Communion of the Apostles, which is very original here, as the angels wear robes and royal decor is present in the background. A frieze is decorated with portraits archques and two Saints in the region, St. Clement of Ohrid and St. Erasmus. Saint-Jean, owner of the place, is represented by size.
