The church of the Cordeliers is a church of the old city of Nancy , located just beside the Palais des Ducs de Lorraine it contains the tombs. The convent that adjoins is now part of the museum Lorrain. The chapel of the old Franciscan monastery which contains the tombs of the dukes of Lorraine is the subject of a classification as historic monuments History Built under Ren II of Lorraine after the battle of Nancy , she was consecrated in 1487 , adjacent to the Ducal Palace rebuilt at the same time. The church later became the burial of the dukes of Lorraine , previously buried in the Church of St. George's (now defunct). The building is surprisingly very plain exterior with a total length of 73 meters and only 9 meters wide. The vast nave single, typical of the architecture of churches of the Cordeliers, was decorated with many windows (some fragments are visible at the Lorraine Museum ), as well as frescoes , which remains a span intact at the chorus. Laterally to the nave there are side chapels housing the enfeux some dukes of Lorraine. Just before the altar on the right side is the impressive revival of polychrome enfeu Duke Ren II of Lorraine (described below). The altar is decorated with an altar full color from 1522, while the large rosette remade the classic era represents the arms of Lorraine. To the left of the altar is the gate to access the funeral chapel of the Princes of Lorraine. In the nineteenth century were installed in the choir stalls of wood from the Salival Abbey dating from 1691. The chapel , attached to the choir is a beautiful building constructed in 1609 to 1612 style Baroque Italian with an amazing dome in trompe-l'oeil. The chapel, founded by the will of Duke Charles III of Lorraine , contains the remains and cenotaphs of all the dukes of Lorraine, ancestors of the family of Habsburg-Lorraine. In the nave near the chancel is the tomb of Duke Ren II , characterized by a monumental enfeu polychrome style renaissance due to the architect Jacques Vauthier and executed in 1511 . Among the effigies located in the aisles of the nave, that of the wife of Ren II, Philip of Gelderland , the performance is remarkable sculptural under the chisel of Ligier Richier and by treating the stone limestone Meuse him giving the appearance of marble. One can also notice the effigies of Henry III Vaudmont , from Antoine de Vaudmont and Marie d'Harcourt (1398-1476) and the tomb of Cardinal Charles de Vaudmont by Florent Drouin. A beautiful Romanesque style statue called The Return of the Crusader (XII century) is presumed to be the tomb of Gerard I. Vaudmont and Huderige of Dagsbourg (or Vaudmont Hugh I of Burgundy & Aigeline). The woman clasping her husband back after a long absence of over a dozen years. The engraver Jacques Callot and the painter Jean Le Clerc are also buried in the church.
