The Church of St. Basil is a church parish confessional Catholic , dedicated to Archbishop Basil of Caesarea , located in the French town of Etampes and the department of Essonne.
Summary |
The Church of St. Basil is located along the former route of National Highway 20 from Paris to Orleans near the city center of Etampes , opposite the hotel said Diane de Poitiers, below the castle 'Etampes.
History
The church was built around the year 1020 at the request of Robert II in addition to the collegiate church of Notre-Dame-du-Fort popular for offices. The church was completely rebuilt in the twelfth century between 1125 and 1145 with the new portal , tower , apse , choir and transept , restored in the fifteenth century and sixteenth century.
In 1226 , the church became a parish but the consecration intervened in 1497 by Tristan Salazar. It is also in the fifteenth century the nave , transept and choir were brightened. The collateral was they changed the sixteenth century .
At the Revolution , the church was transformed into Salpetriere, an organ was added in 1848 , the chapel of the Virgin in 1849 and that of St. Joseph in 1863. In 1862 , the church was closed to the historical monuments .
Description
The Church of St. Basil is built in limestone and stone in a Romanesque style in a plane lying on three vessels and bedside dish. A brick tower allows access to the tower , the whole being covered with slate. The nave and aisles are dominated by the arches in ribbed quadripartite whose keystones are the arms of Anne de Bretagne.
The work of the XII century the remaining gate in the lower parts of the transept and choir , the tower cross and the lower part of the nave. In XV century , it is stilted in the choir and transept. On the gate of St. Jacques shells reminder that the church is located on Via Turonensis.
An organ -style romance from a monastery of Provins , a high relief representing the Stations of the Cross , reliefs showing the baptism , the stoning of St. Stephen and the Passion decorate the building. The baptismal font in marble , the confessional , the pulpit in oak , the altar of vanity. Three bells named Louise, Mary and Caroline bronze dating from 1829 are present in the belfry.
