The Church of Mensa Christi is a Catholic church located in Nazareth in the Holy Land (now the northern part of the State of Israel ).

History

The first thirty years of Christ's life are part of his hidden life, except the events of Children told to cover the Temple. Christians also have they always tried over the centuries places traditionally known of its existence, silent, transmitted through generations.

The Mensa Christi or Christ's table contains a piece of limestone which according to tradition was a rock on which Christ sat down to dinner one last time with his disciples after the episode of Emmaus.

The Franciscans , the guardians of the Holy Places in their Custody of the Holy Land , therefore, have received permission by the authorities ottomans in a chapel built here in the eighteenth century. It was rebuilt in the mid-nineteenth century and completed in 1861. It is located in the old city of Nazareth, the place of Christ's childhood, north of the convent of the Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo Church and near the Maronite of the Annunciation. The Israeli government has renovated the chapel to commemorate the second millennium of the birth of Christ, especially the frescoes and the dome.

Today we can access it on foot, crossing the path behind the monastery of the Carmelites. The church was closed most of the time, can be seen on request.
