Summary

History

Founded in 1929, JAC (Youth Agricultural Catholic) contributed, throughout its existence, to modernize agriculture and to train many managers and association leaders, professionals and politicians. In the 1960s, seeing that the rural world and society change, jacistes understand pretty quickly that farmers are no longer the only actors in this world and must be open to a wider audience. The JAC in 1963 becomes the Rural Youth Movement MRJC Christian. Besides the agricultural public, the MRJC now takes into account the other layers of the countryside: young employees, but also young people in academic training.

The popular education movement is a university MRJC permanent school responsibilities. It allows young people to analyze society, understand, train and organize collectively and with partners to act. With its 80 years of experience (that the movement has celebrated in different regions but also has the National Assembly this Friday, May 29, 2008), the Movement is "a hotbed of social innovation."

The MRJC in figures

  • 300 teams
  • 10 000 youth teams or occasionally joined
  • present in 17 regions, 60 departments
  • 70 permanent instructors throughout France

The life of the movement is punctuated by two major stages: adoption every 6 / 7 years new directions alternating with a national gathering. All 6 / 7 years, to re MRJC asked about his plan for action as close as possible to rural youth and enable them to adapt their actions to the new social realities. This project was renewed in 2000, revolves around three pillars that are complementary: the relationship to another, the Christian foundation and the work of social transformation. Nourished by these funds and participate on the principles of secularism in different fields of intervention are agriculture (agricultural youth facility, multifunctional agriculture ...), employment (in the course of the social economy) and school (school and rural education throughout life), the youth movement are key actors in society.

The MRJC organized from local to international, managed and run by young people 14 to 30 years, plays an advocacy role, training analysis and action that allows young people to invest in the local life, of doing proposals and thus to exercise their full citizenship. It is rooted in an original environment and especially on territory that young put all their capacity for imagination, energy and boldness in the service of human development and social transformation for more justice and solidarity on their environment: the countryside.

Operation

The movement is composed of different levels namely national, regional, departmental and local levels. Locally, there are small teams of young people coming together frequently, sometimes with a facilitator around a project. At departmental level, a permanent (employee of MRJC) coordinating action and serves as a bridge between local teams. A board of directors meets regularly completes.

National Rally

Every 6 years, the NSA (National Rally) together young people from across the France for a few days around debates, conferences, events, concerts, ... The RN of 2004 took place in Vannes (56) where 7000 young people discussed on employment, agriculture and the school were able to participate in conferences on European integration , the political crisis, alternatives economic and sustainable development and finally attended the concert of Ogres de Barback and Howls of Leo. In July 2011, the RN called "Festival of compasses" will be held at Argenton sur Creuse (36).

The approach Directions

The world changes, youth issues, too. For this reason, the MRJC commits a research regularly to set its guidelines taking into account the changes in society. Although more than a revision of its facade project is an opportunity for a broad reflection to provide future ambitions. This allows for positioning in MRJC issues and social debates of our time.

This research leads the Movement to harbor ambitions for:

  • youth, because we believe in the capacity of youth to think and live, with other generations, a new social organization to guarantee justice and solidarity among men.
  • rural areas, because we want the people of rural captured changes that mark their territory and to make choices and promising direction for men who live and dwell, as men of other territories.
  • the Church because we believe that the Catholic Church, now a minority in France, must invent new forms of presence among men of that time to announce his message of hope.

The MRJC is a youth run and led by young people aged fifteen to thirty years. We renew every six years our association project that each generation can take it. Furthermore we register our actions from the perspective of social transformation. It therefore asks us to analyze, without ceasing, the world in which we live.

The 2000 guidelines say our contribution to society from three founding principles:

  • Further to our report: to transform the relationship between persons for further cooperation.
  • our Christian foundation, heirs of social Catholicism, we wish to promote a faith that makes you want to live in the world.
  • our work for social change: we demand a political character to our actions, believing that youth can participate in transforming the world as long as you create frameworks that allow it.

To make these principles come alive, the Movement promotes a sense of responsibility, collective action, training of young people (team leaders, heads of associations ...).

Since 1929, these public education efforts to build interest, brotherhood, social justice through the commitment of thousands of rural youth.
