Chemosh

Chemosh, or sometimes called Chemosh Chemosh was the god of the Amorites and the Moabites.

Like many other gods Chemosh was honored to human sacrifices. Some believe that the Moabite king offered his son as a sacrifice when his city was besieged by QirHareset allied armies of the King of Israel , Joram , the king of Judah , Jehoshaphat.

In their period of henotheism , Hebrews admire many gods, which Chemosh, they gradually subordinated to Yahweh.

Chemosh was later described by the sacred writers of "abomination of Moab" or "Junk of Moab."

Influenced by his foreign wives, some of whom were Moabites and Ammonites , the king Solomon dedicated to Chemosh a high place of worship at the gates of Jerusalem.

Three centuries later, the pious King Josiah put an end to his cult, on the occasion of the last great religious reform before the Exile. The temple of Chemosh will be "unclean" that is to say, unfit for any use by religious defilement.

Chemosh was also presented under the name Milcom , as the national god of Ammon.
