Islamic scholar, he suggested in his textbook Islam: The Future of Tradition between Revolution and Westernization (ed. du Rocher, 2008) alleviated some idea of Islam by arguing that the real Islam is the religion of "Balance" (Din Al Wasat), that of a reformist tradition, practicing ijtihad (effort adjustment) in cases relating to social life (mouamalat). This reformist tradition is the opposite of extremist excesses of a minority and westernization leading to self-denial and alienation.
