Chalon-sur-Sane is a French commune part of the Rhine-Rhone , it is located in the region of Burgundy and is sub-prefecture of the department of Saone-et-Loire. This city is located along the Sane in the north of the Saone-et-Loire. Its inhabitants are called Chalon.

Situation

Built on the banks of the Saone there are over 3000 years, having been a naval base in the ancient world , instead of large fairs during the Middle Ages and trading center of the modern and the contemporary era , Chalon-sur- Saone is now sub-prefecture of Saone-et-Loire , the first town in the department Chalon-sur-Saone is located 341 km southeast of Paris , 202 miles northwest of Geneva and 127 km north of Lyon.

Transportation and communication routes

Several major roads run through the city, the A6 motorway , the railway route Paris - Lyon - Marseille , 20 km to the TGV ( Gare du Creusot TGV ) and the National Route 80 Chalon- Mills.

Geology

The soils are derived from the era of Late Jurassic age and the Pleistocene intermediate and advanced.

Hydrology

A river runs through this city, it is called the Saone. The river may overflow during some floods, like that of November 1840 with measured water levels at the scales at 7.28 m (over 6 m and 5.5 m above the normal level!) Climate

Etymology

The city was called to Cabillonum time Roman .

History

Antiquity

The city has, throughout its history, its major lines of communication .

Chalon is under the Gauls , the second city of AEdui. The Romans make Cabillonum a grain warehouse and a river port .

According to legend, Saint Marcel is martyred in 179. Lower Empire, a speaker is built to defend the city, which is reduced to 15 ha . In the fifth century , a bishopric was established .

Middle Ages

Chalon is a capital of the kingdom during the independence of the kingdom of Burgundy , it is still important in returning the kingdoms francs .

Chalon is the fifth to the thirteenth century , the theater of twelve councils from 470 to 1073 . The main ones are:

The city is destroyed by the Saracens in 732 , rebuilt by Charlemagne half a century later, burned in 834 by Lothaire ; stormed by the Hungarians in 937 and again in 1168 by Louis VII , Count William irritated cons .

Renaissance

This city still plays quite a role as a stronghold during the religious wars of the sixteenth century.Charles IX into the city on 1 June 1564 during his royal tour of France ( 1564 - 1566 ), and receives, together the Court and the Department of the kingdom, a hero's welcome .

Modern

To improve port traffic of the city, real docks were built in the eighteenth century . At the end of the century, the engineer miland Gauthey finishing the Canal du Centre , which ultimately led to the basin foot of the obelisk current . The canal brought in Chalon-sur-Saone, a new economic asset . Under the First Empire , the continental blockade gives a great boost to his business .

Contemporary period

During the Second World War , Chalon-sur-Saone is situated right on the line, and is completely split in two. The Sane then plays the role of border-free zone and the occupied zone. Thus, families living in Saint Remy, west of Chalon, located in the free zone, could find themselves cut off from their families at Champforgeuil north east, and situated in the occupied zone. Chalon is released September 5, 1944 by troops of the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division who had landed in Provence . In early 2000 , the company Kodak , which employed hundreds of people withdrew from the city.

The Elan Chalon ( Basketball ) is the headliner of the sport currently Chalon (2009). The club already has five semi-finals of the Championship of France Pro A and 13 seasons among the elite. He reached the final of the Saporta Cup (European Cup) in 2001 . In women, the Chalon Basketball Club evolves National 2 in 2009 - 2010 , having played there a dozen years in National 1. The Racing Club Chalonnais ( Rugby Union ) who after a prosperous period in the 1970s and 1980s did after trying to find the way to the high level, currently plays in three federal bankruptcy following the June 10, 2010. The VBCC Volleyball Club Chalon ( Volleyball ) that evolves in 2008 - 2009 in National 3. The Chalon sur Sane Badminton Club ( Badminton ) with leisure and competition .   • Nicephorus City: resource platform images and sounds.
  • The Slaughterhouse: former abattoir Regional Abattoir became a cultural structure that knows how to accompany and support street artists over their creations. It is one of nine National Centres of the Arts of France Street.
  • Lapniche. Hall of contemporary music. Located within the walls of the slaughterhouse, a concert hall conventioned (The Abatta ') was created in 1994. It changed its name in 1999 and became Lapniche.

The city has other fortifications with bastions of XVI century (St. Peter and Royal) built by Henry II.

Catholic Churches
Cathedral of St Vincent

In the city, outside the chapel or chapels-old Catholic school or medical facilities etc.., There are eight buildings used for worship, shared between three parishes: these are those listed below.
