The Centre of Social Democrats (CDS) is a political party of the French center-right, conviction of Christian Democrats , founded the Congress of Rennes , held from 21 to 23 May 1976 by the merger of the Democratic Centre of Lecanuet (opposite Charles de Gaulle Airport since 1962 and then to Georges Pompidou ) and the Centre Democracy and Progress of Jacques Duhamel (joined the Gaullist from the election of Georges Pompidou in 1969 ). It was, from 1978 until his demise in 1995 , a founding member of the Union for French Democracy (UDF) which was the wing Christian Democrat.
A substantial portion of its members is an independent parliamentary group in the National Assembly between 1988 and 1993 ( Centre Union ) to support the government's opening center-left Michel Rocard , to Edith Cresson then Pierre Beregovoy. In the Senate he formed the centrist Union of Democratic Progress (UCDP) between 1976 and 1983 and Centrist Union from that date. It merged with the PSD and became Democratic Force in November 1995 under the leadership of Franois Bayrou.
Summary |
Political positioning
Its ideology is the Christian Democrats. In fact it goes back to social Catholicism of Albert de Mun and the Popular Republican Movement (MRP, between 1944 and 1966 ), influential under the Fourth Republic. For this family policy, the government must be decentralized with the organization of body parts at the local level and serve the poor through social action.
After 1945, the Christian Democrats in favor of European integration by supporting the creation of supranational bodies that can cope with the problems of unemployment, global warming, insecurity, terrorism ... They are voting for extensive cooperation of European states in these areas through a supranational mode stronger than the states themselves, that is to say for a federal Europe.
The representatives of this family in the 1990s were Francois Bayrou , Dominique Baudis , Pierre Mehaignerie , Philippe Douste-Blazy , Bernard Stasi.
Young Social Democrats (JDS) were the youth movement of the CDS.
