The beginnings
Founded in 1966 , the Mission Catholic Students of France (MECF) was until 2006 a 1901 law association , who took over from the CCTF (French Federation of Catholic Students), which existed since 1922.
Shortly after its creation, MECF suffered the shock of May 1968. The blanket denial of any form of hierarchy among students led to the resignation of a large number of youth involved in local as well as chaplains in the National Team. It is a time of crisis that starts from the point of view of the Mission, it will last a decade.
Around 1980 , the number of students in France has increased considerably since the 60s, and reached 1 million. Among Catholic students, the desire for a greater commitment from them to feel again. In 1979 , for the first time since 1968 , students participating in the National Session that brought together so that more chaplains. In 1981 , the National Chaplain returns Session Session national chaplaincy.
At the National Session of 1988 , the number of students exceeds that of chaplains. The MECF is now a service account in the church, but also in the French academic world because it is part of national organizations with the most students.
The MECF is then administered by a National Council, composed of student representatives and chaplains of the Regions, which met four times a year. The animation was provided by a National Team. The general meeting was held during the National Session: the local chaplaincy as associations were affiliated to MECF, which gave them a right to vote at the general meeting.
Dissolution
At the national session of 2006, when the association celebrated its 40 years, a reform led to the dissolution of the association. The year 2006 also marked the creation of national student days (JEN).
By decision of the General Meeting of 31 August 2006, MECF has lost its status as an association, but remained for a year and a half the name of the chaplaincy service dedicated to students of the Catholic Church in France. This service depends on the ministry for the evangelization of youth and school students. A panel of 5 students called by the Church of France was responsible for coordinating the implementation of the national session of 2007 and define exactly the new modus operandi.
In December 2007, the name "Student Mission" of the service was finally abandoned in favor of that of "Catholic Student Chaplaincy."

The MECF was also a founding member, and thus ex officio member of the collegiality of the Earth-CCFD Solidarity (Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development).
