Summary

History and Purpose

The goal of Catholic Action is twofold:

  • provide new tools to Christianize or maintain the faith of these environments.
  • bring to them the humanistic and social doctrine of the Church.

In Italy, the Italian Catholic Action (1922) is organized by Pius XI in four legs (men, women, young men, young girls) who give birth to the general Catholic Action.

In France, the Catholic Association of French youth (ACJF) was founded in 1886 by Albert de Mun chaired by Henry Savatier. ACJF then splits into specialized training: The Young Christian Workers (YCW, 1927), the Catholic Youth Farm (JAC, 1929), the Young Christian Students (YCS, 1929), the Catholic Youth Maritime (JMC, 1932) and the Independent Christian Youth (JIC, 1935). Each of these formations taking its autonomy, ACJF dissolved in 1956.

The motion is carried mainly by lay people , although supported by theologians and philosophers such as Yves Congar , Marie-Dominique Chenu , Emmanuel Mounier and Jacques Maritain (Full Humanism, 1936). It is moving rapidly to the left of the political spectrum, Mounier, founder of personalism , up to proclaim that " capitalism should be abolished and replaced by an organization socialist production and consumption "(What that personalism?, 1946) List of major Catholic Action
