Cathedral School
A cathedral school is an educational institution of the Middle Ages eleventh and twelfth centuries.
The cathedral schools were named for their links with the Church , that they are intended originally to train clergy. They have gradually accepted lay students. These schools have been the basis of the philosophical and cultural renaissance of the twelfth century and before the establishment of universities in the thirteenth century.
In France , the most important schools were those of Chartres , Orleans , Reims , Paris and Laon.
