Summary |
In the early twentieth century with the struggle for a Ukrainian state in Ukraine began the movement for Autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The Polish Orthodox Church
During the Second World War in Ukraine there was the relaunch of the canonical branch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Autocephalous (EOAU), which won the autonomy of Valedinski Dionysius , Metropolitan of the Polish Orthodox Church, which has received in 1924 the autocephalous status of the Ecumenical Patriarch Gregory VII . In 1932 , Metropolitan Dionysius ordered Metropolitan Polykarp Sikorsky and in 1942 he was sent into German-occupied Ukraine, for the recovery of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the ordination of new bishops. Thus in 1942 the entire hierarchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Autocephalous received canonical ordinations of bishops by the Apostle Peter. Among the bishops were ordained fire Mstislav Patriarch and the Metropolitan Ohiychuk Gregory , who gave the orders to the canonical Patriarch Moses . The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew recognize the canonicity of EOAU. The proof is that in 1995 he took under his omophorion bishops and clergy of OAU the United States and Canada. After the end of the Second World War in 1945 , the OAU Ukraine was destroyed by Soviet authorities. Part of the episcopate and clergy has been taken in the concentration camps in Germany, but some have managed to migrate to the Europe and America , where they could continue their religious life and building churches in OAU.
The OAU in Independent Ukraine
In 1990 , after the celebration of thousandth anniversary of the Baptism of Russia-Ukraine , the new revival of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church began in Ukraine. It was founded by the Metropolitan Ivan Bondarchuk , in central Ukraine in April 1990 the revival of OAU was started by the Archpriest Oleg Kulik (at present the patriarch Moses ), who hosted about 200 communities in OAU , being a director of Metropolitan Regions in Khmelnitsky , Vinnitsa and Zhitomir.
5 - 6 June 1990 in Kiev he did the Ukrainian Orthodox council, with the help of more than 700 delegates from across Ukraine: the number there were seven bishops and more than 200 priests. The Council approved the formation of OAU and selected as Patriarch of Kiev and all Ukraine the Metropolitan Mstislaw (Skrypnik) , which had a line of the Episcopal Church Polish Orthodox. On 2 October 1990 the authorities of the SSRU OAU officially recorded. On 18 November 1990 in the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Kiev Patriarch of Kiev and all Ukraine was Mstislaw enthronement.
From this, the Patriarch Mstislaw (Skrypnik) not only became the first Patriarch, but he also joined temporarily in Ukraine OAU with EOU United States and the diaspora, who are a branch of the canonical Orthodox Church Polish.
Therefore, the hierarchs and clergy of the EOU United States began to come to Ukraine, to serve in the Ukrainian churches and participate in the ordination of priests. Thus, the Patriarch Mstislaw with the Bishop of Washington Antoni Shcherba ordered the Bishop of Khmelnitsky Fialka Anthony and Bishop of Dnipropetrovsk, Panteleymon. The last two canonically ordained bishops have gone to the ROC - since then, the line of ordained canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church Autocephalous disappeared.
25 - 26 June 1992 in Kiev at home Filaret Denisenko it happened a betrayal of the EOU administrator Affairs Metropolitan Anthony (Masendych) without saying that neither the Patriarch Mstislaw or other members of clergy supported the initiative of President Kravchuk LM of the false association of OAU with the ROC.
The Patriarch of the OAU Mstislaw (Skrypnik) has not adopted this betrayal of OAU and invited the authorities of Ukraine and the faithful of the OAU not to recognize this union and to oppose any force this betrayal. But the authorities were on the side of Filaret Denisenko and illegally transferred all properties under the authority of OAU Filaret Denisenko.
On 11 June 1993 it took the death of Patriarch of Kiev and all Ukraine Mstsislaw. Before its end, the Patriarch, who consider themselves betrayed himself and OAU, announced his will that the OAU should not have behavior with former Metropolitan Filaret Denisenko of the ROC, which was denied dignity by his own church, the ROC.
In 1995 , two years after the end of Mstislaw Patriarch, the bishops of the United States OAU spent under the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew amice, thereby cutting the canonical branch, which gave hope of return Ukraine line Apostolic Episcopal and the rebirth of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
