The French General Alexandre Taponier Camille was born on 2 February 1749 in Valencia and died on 14 April 1831 at Paris.
Biography
In 1789 , Taponier, then a sergeant in a regiment of grenadiers , was among the crowd outside the Bastille and took charge of the assault the prison. Following this brilliant action, he is a lieutenant and captain in the weeks that follow.
1791 Taponier was involved in the blockade of the fortress of Landau. On 7 November 1793 , he was appointed Major General (Chief of the 8th Division under the command of Gouvion Saint-Cyr ).
He holds the Legion of Honor and his name is engraved on the panel of north pillar of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. He was buried in Montparnasse Cemetery Sources References
