Chapel Notre-Dame-de-Tronon, located in the town of Saint-Jean-Trolimon , a few miles north of St. Gunol in Finistre , is famous for his ordeal carved.
It is a bit far from the village, atop a high hill that descends to the sea beyond.
Summary |
It is a rectangular building with a single nave, dating from the second quarter of the fifteenth century , with a north aisle built after (former boundary of the roof is visible on the facade, openings of different styles) tend to Gothic Flamboyant. The rosette Gothic is similar to that of the church of Pont l'Abb. Anecdotally, the Project Manager of the chapel is represented by a carved head on the wall outside, hidden to the left and behind the shoulder height of the door into the nave.
Among the furniture, there is a table for an altar in granite remarkable for its size (more than 5 m in length), which previously had been buried before his replacement now.
This chapel is the subject of a classification as historical monuments since 27 August 1907 The plight It is considered the oldest of the major shrines in Britain. It is dated between 1450 and 1470. It consists of a rectangular base 50 4 m 3 m 50 (the mace), two strips, topped with three crucifixions : the Christ and two thieves. Everything is in granite , either Scar , or Kersanton , more resistant to erosion and whose scenes engraved in the stone ( Visitation , Nativity and the Magi ) were more resistant to it. The scenes are read broadly in the opposite direction of a clock hand, starting from the right end of the east face. Only the scene of the Entombment is missing in the iconography represented. As well as the arrest, and all acts of Jesus' life takes place between his Baptism and the Supper. Moreover, the appearance chonologique is secondary in this ordeal, since the arrangement of scenes responds primarily to symbolic considerations. This ordeal is the subject of a classification as historical monuments since 13 June 1894 . Bibliography
