Code of Honor
All students and teachers, whatever their religion, are obliged to accept membership in an Honor Code. The signing of a commitment to live the Honor Code is part of the application process for admission and must be respected by all students, faculty and staff. Students and teachers violating the rules are notified or asked to meet representatives of the Board of Honour. In rare cases, students and faculty can be expelled from school or lose their mandate.
President Karl G. Maeser created the "Domestic Organization", composed of a group of teachers who visited students at their homes to ensure they follow the moral rules prohibiting obscenity school, smoking and alcohol consumption.
The Honor Code itself was not created before 1940 and was used primarily for cases of cheating and dishonesty. President Wilkinson broadens the Honor Code in 1957 to include other academic standards leading to the Honor Code with the current rules regarding chastity, dress, good presentation, drugs and alcohol.
