Benozzo di Lese, Benozzo Gozzoli said (Sant'Ilario Colombano was near the Badia di Settimo of Scandicci , 1420 or 1424 - Pistoia , 1497 ) is one of the painters 's major Florentine school whose masterpiece work remains the 's Palazzo Medici-Riccardi.

Gozzoli arrives with his family in Florence in 1427. He trained with Fra Angelico at San Marco monastery where many works are executed from the drawings of the master, then between 1444 and 1447 as a goldsmith in the workshop of Ghiberti and worked with him and his brother Vittorio Ghiberti at the door Paradise of the Baptistery of St. John.

In May 1447, he moved to Rome with Fra Angelico called to Pope Eugenius IV for decorations at the Vatican and the Cappella Niccolina of Nicolas V. His renown as a decorator starts with frescoes (missing) painted during his stay at the church of St. Mary Aracoeli (St. Anthony and Two Angels) and St. Mary Major. He also follows in Umbria when working with frescoes on the ceiling of the cathedral of Orvieto.

In 1449, he left Fra Angelico and remains in Umbria for an Annunciation in Narni , signed OPU Works
